International Experience Canada

International Experience Canada (IEC) is an initiative managed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) that enables youth from select countries to temporarily live, work, and explore Canada. This program promotes cultural exchange, language acquisition, and international work experience.

Key Features of the International Experience Canada Program:

Eligibility: Participants must be citizens of countries with bilateral youth mobility agreements with Canada. Age limits and specific criteria vary by country and program category, generally ranging between 18 and 35 years.

Program Categories:

  • Working Holiday: Allows participants to travel and work in Canada for up to 12 or 24 months with an open work permit, facilitating short-term employment to support travel expenses.

  • Young Professionals: Provides opportunities for participants with job offers in NOC Skill Level 0, A, or B occupations to gain professional experience in Canada for up to 24 months.

  • International Co-op (Internship): Enables students to undertake work placements or internships directly related to their field of study in Canada, with durations of up to 12 or 24 months, depending on the country.

Application Process: Eligible candidates create a profile in the IEC pool and apply online. Successful candidates receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for a work permit, followed by submission of required documents within a specified timeframe.

Quotas and Availability: Each participating country sets quotas for each category annually. Once quotas are filled, no further invitations are issued for that country/category combination. Early application is advised.

Family Benefits: Spouses or partners of IEC participants may obtain open work permits, allowing employment with any Canadian employer. Dependent children may apply for study permits to attend school in Canada.
